La familia coatí - the coatí family.

The coatí is an indigenous animal of the region. Its name in guaraní means elongated nose. I have known about its existence since I was a little child from Uruguayan writter Horacio Quiroga´s tales for children and finding them this way as an adult has been a great joy.

The family I found was composed of a mother with her puppies and I would say two young males too. I have been reading and I learnt that adult males have solitary ways.

Los espero en la próxima historia (:

I hope to see you in the next story (:

EL CAMINO ESCONDIDO HACIA LA PLAYA - THE HIDDEN PATH TO THE BEACH.

To get to the beach from where I was camping I could go through the main street which the people usually takes or through a hidden path inside the woods. I used to choose the second to go or come because apart from enjoying the beautiful natural path, I had hope of finding a guazuvirá which I know have been seen in the park. I never found one but in the first afternoon I was trekking I found a family of coatíes (which deserves a post apart) that were there looking for food among in the leaves and the trunks.

I can remember the sound of the leaves dancing in the wind and falling in piles as if it was raining. I still feel the humid dirt under my foot. I can picture the little bridges one has to cross in some tracks which I used to do with enthusiasm. Finding unknown fruits and want to know the name. Eat them.
I did regret and fear that are poisonous .The trunk stairs. The stone stairs. Being inside of the woods but also listening to the sound of the waves breaking far in the distance. Each step taken is an increase of that sound. The path is ending and the woods is being left behind. Scrubs, I go through them. Now I feel the stones under my foot and then, sand. The sea is there for me only. There is nobody on the beach and the vastness of the landscape embraces me.

By the way, if anyone knows the name of this berries I would love to hear it. They grow in a tree and have a quite big seed.

Los espero en la próxima historia (:

I hope to see you in the next story (:

PRIMERA VEZ ACAMPANDO SOLO - FIRST TIME CAMPING ALONE.

Some days ago I went camping to Santa Teresa here in Uruguay. Is a beautiful national park full of forests and beaches. Year ago I went there but I did it with friends; it was an amazing shared experience. But this time I needed to be alone a few days to bring clarity to my mind, so I went camping with the challenge to be in solitude. I only took the essentials things with me. To my surprise there was nobody in the entire park (given that when I used to go it was high season). There were barely a few families camping. Santa Teresa was almost empty and in the beaches you could hear the sound of the sea.

En ese bello rinconcito armé la carpa.

In this beautiful little corner I put up the carp.

The laundry dried out fastly because the sun was quite strong. I call that red thing you can see "el poncho de Mercedes". It isn't a poncho but it reminds me of the one that the singer used to use. I discovered that it has many functions: bed cover, giant shawl, sarong beach, shadow and tablet cloth.

Little herbs I found around and I found very pretty.

I didn't want to lit up a fire those days so I didn't cook. I brought thing that I could eat raw. What you see here is oat, chia, flax, sesame that I left hydrating during the night (I added some sugar, although some other times I used raisins).

With all the eucalyptus leaves that were there I could make a beautiful natural mattress that I put under the carp.

A falta de estacas...

In the lack of stakes...

The marvelous tree that I used to see when I woke up in the morning.

The thing that I love about the forest is how the sunsets light filters trough all the spaces it finds.

This little trip was a great experience from which I learnt a lot. Having to be alone all the day without anyone to talk with made me face my self and a lot of things that were inside of me and I couldn't see. I reaffirmed the idea that stuff doesn't always go as expected: I tought I would arrive to a Santa Teresa completly crowded and with a lot of movement but it was the exact opposite.

Soon I'll be posting more moments of those days (:
